It was very important to protect the legs of a warrior in any age when mail was a predominant form of armor. Chainmail may be good protection, but until the advent of plate most combatants opted to still use a shield as their first defense. Large shields often forced opponents to target the legs; evidence for this comes from mass graves from medieval battlefields, where a high proportion of wounds were dealt to the lower legs, followed by a strike to the head. Neglecting the legs, and in particular the shins, would not have been wise in such a fighting environment. The need to protect the legs was especially important for cavalrymen when fighting infantry – the legs would be a stand-out, eye-level target for men on foot, thus making it essential to protect them.

These mail leggings (chausses) are crafted from flat rings of mild steel that have been dome riveted. These alternate with solid flat rings to complete the mail and this method of alternating solid with riveted rings was a historically accurate method to reduce the riveting needed to fashion a finished mail component. Rings measure 8mm in the internal diameter and 18 gauge in thickness of wire.
These fully battle-ready chainmail chausses are supplied in pairs. They can be hold with the help of belt, and you can also use something these things e.g. with leather strings and/or leather straps (that’s not included in delivery). They can also be sewn on (leather) trousers.
