The Villanovan Shield is based on bronze examples that date to the Villanovan 7th Century Iron Age culture in Italy – a culture that had a great deal of influence from Greek traders and settlers. These embellished bronze shields would have been wielded by chieftains and wealthier members of their society as reflections of their status.
